I don’t like sit-ups and didn’t always like planks. Planks grew on me, and I eventually found that they weren’t so bad after all. I use planks to strengthen my abs, improve my balance and keep me focused.
I didn’t jump into planks right after my hysterectomy.
As with other abdominal exercises, you’ll want to wait for your surgeon’s approval before attempting them. It was several weeks post-surgery before I started doing planks again.
If you’ve had issues with prolapse or are at risk, planks can put pressure on the pelvic floor. In order to protect the pelvic floor, you can modify the planks on your elbows and knees.
I started on my knees and later moved to my toes. I also do side planks with and without side twists. The option is yours.
