Staying fit physically after a hysterectomy is a multi-step process.

It’s a recipe that combines regular exercise with adequate rest, good nutrition and the proper mindset. You’ll experience a huge difference in how you look and feel when all these pieces are in place.

After my hysterectomy, I wanted to jump into my old routine of exercising 30-45 minutes a day, but my body told me otherwise. I had to ease into my regular routine, which took time. If you’re in the same boat, remember that “slow and steady” wins the race.

Here are some of my favorite exercises that I do today. I wouldn’t suggest doing them right after your hysterectomy, but only when your doctor gives the okay.

If anything hurts or feels uncomfortable, your body may be telling you to stop. Listen to it. Now may not be the right time, or you may need to modify the exercise to work for you.

Give yourself permission to heal and relax.
